The Pedigree Project
Last Updated 03/23/2021

Back in 2018, I began searching for a way to calculate the COI (coefficient of inbreeding) for Siberian Huskies in order to make more informed decisions for my breeding program in terms of genetic health and diversity. I searched for programs or databases that could give me a 10+ generation COI for any dog, and was discouraged to find that other than small private databases used by individual breeders and a UK-based COI calculator hosting a small number of Kennel Club-registered animals, there was no publicly available source of COI information for the average person to use.

With this in mind, I purchased a license for a pedigree/COI tracking program called Breeding Master, and began building a database of my own, one dog at a time. I started with my own dog Kodi, and spent dozens of hours researching, entering, and linking together the names of the 1,024 ancestors in 10 generations of his pedigree (including all of their prefix and suffix titles!)

This is what the Breeding Master program looks like - the selected dog's name is highlighted in blue, and to the right are the dog's stats, including Kennel, Breeder, Sire/Dam, COI (here labeled "IC" for "Inbreeding Coefficient"), and any offspring registered in the database.
Once I had Kodi's done, I decided to enter pedigrees of some other dogs from his breeder's kennel so that the database could benefit their breeding program as well. After doing this a few times, I realized just how valuable a tool this could be for all Siberian Husky breeders, and how it could potentially aid many people in planning breedings with type, temperament, health, and genetic diversity in mind.

Using this program, I'm now able to:
* Generate a 3-10 generation pedigree for any individual dog in the database
* List the COI of every ancestor in the pedigree
* Automatically highlight common ancestors in different colors, to identify line-breeding or out-crossing possibilities more easily
* See any dog's name containing the chosen search term (e.g. A kennel name, "CH," "SD," "CGC," etc.) displayed in red text throughout the pedigree
* Create test-matings to calculate the COI of any pairing I choose
* View tabs for Health, Show Results, Notes, and Images
* View information such as each dog's Reg Name, Call Name, Color, Sex, Owner, Breed, and Prefix and Suffix titles.
*NOTE: I am entering only the Registered Name, Breed, Sex, and Prefix/Suffix titles for each dog; inputting the owner, breeder, DOB, and color of every dog would make this years-long project practically impossible for one person. For info regarding a the DOB, color, or breeder/owner of a dog, PawVillage and IngRus are still the best resources.

Progress/Updates
The database currently stands at 24,184 dogs spanning dozens of kennels, and I've completed 100% entry of existing PawVillage records for the following 137 kennels:
